Cleansing, Routine & Skin Barrier

Should I use different products for day and night?

Updated 1. January 2024

Immediate Answer: Yes. Daytime products need SPF and lightweight texture. Nighttime products can be richer and can contain actives that make skin light-sensitive (like retinol). Your skin's needs change between day and night.

The Science: During the day, your skin faces:

  • UV exposure (requires SPF)
  • Environmental pollution and oxidative stress (antioxidants help)
  • Makeup application (lightweight products prevent congestion)

During the night, your skin:

  • Repairs most actively (growth hormone peaks)
  • Doesn't face UV exposure (can use light-sensitive ingredients)
  • Tolerates richer products better

Using appropriate products for each time maximises benefits and prevents issues.

Pro Tip: SPF is the single most important product for anti-ageing and pigmentation prevention. Using it every day (even on cloudy days, even when indoors near windows) supports healthier-looking skin and darkening than any treatment product reverses.
