How long should I wait between products when applying skincare?

Updated 1. January 2024

Immediate Answer: Wait 30-60 seconds between product applications—this allows each product to absorb and prevents pilling (products balling up on skin). Heavier products (creams) need more time than lighter ones (serums).

The Science: Products need time to absorb. If you apply product on top of wet product, they don't absorb properly—instead, they mix, pill (ball up), and slide off your skin. Waiting allows each product's active ingredients to penetrate before adding the next layer.

Timing varies:

  • Watery serums: 30 seconds
  • Creamy serums: 60 seconds
  • Moisturisers: 60-90 seconds before applying additional products

How long to wait between Nordic Formula products: Recommended application order & timing:

  1. Cleanse with Gentle Cleansing Foam (pat skin slightly damp, don't fully dry)
  2. Apply Power Glow Serum (30-60 seconds wait)
  3. Apply Dark Spot Treatment patches if using (or apply night cream if evening)
  4. Apply Daycream Defence Repair SPF 50 (daytime) or Advanced Face Repair (nighttime)

Pro Tip: If products pill (ball up), you're either applying too much product or not waiting long enough for absorption. Try: use less product volume and wait 60 seconds between each application. For enhanced absorption, use the Face Repair Device after applying your serum and cream—the sonic vibration and infrared light help active ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin.
