Can I use two active ingredients at the same time?

Updated 1. January 2024

Immediate Answer: Yes. Nordic Formula products already combine multiple active ingredients in a single formulation—and they're safe to use together. What matters isn't the number of actives but dosage, formulation, and whether the combination is compatible. Some combinations amplify efficacy; others can cause irritation. Know which is which, and you can use them together confidently.

The Science: Multiple actives can address different concerns efficiently, but they can also overwhelm your barrier if not managed:

Safe combinations:

  • Niacinamide + retinol (niacinamide supports barrier while retinol works)
  • Retinol + hyaluronic acid (hyaluronic acid hydrates while retinol treats)
  • Vitamin C + SPF (vitamin C during day, SPF protects collagen)
  • Kojic acid + tranexamic acid (both anti-pigmentation, different mechanisms)

Unsafe combinations:

  • Retinol + AHA/BHA (double-exfoliation = irritation)
  • Retinol + vitamin C daily (both light-sensitive, both irritating—alternate instead)
  • Multiple strong acids (triple exfoliation = barrier damage)

How Nordic Formula Helps: Our programmes use strategic combinations:

  • Anti-Pigmentation Programme: Dark Spot Treatment patches (active) + Daycream Defence Repair (SPF + supportive ingredients) = safe, synergistic
  • Anti-Ageing Programme: Power Glow Serum (niacinamide + peptides) + Advanced Face Repair (retinol) = designed to work together safely

The programmes are formulated to address multiple mechanisms without irritation.

Pro Tip: If using actives from different brands, research whether they're safe together. Different mechanism = often safe. Similar mechanism = likely irritating. When unsure, consult your product instructions or contact brand support.
