Cleansing, Routine & Skin Barrier

What should I do if my skin becomes red and irritated from products?

Updated 1. January 2024

Immediate Answer: Stop using them immediately, focus on barrier support (moisturiser + gentle cleansing) for 3-7 days, then reintroduce products with active ingredients more slowly or at lower frequency.

The Science: Irritation is your skin's signal that you've exceeded its tolerance. Continuing aggressive products when your skin is irritated worsens damage. Taking a break allows your barrier to restore, then you can reintroduce treatments more thoughtfully.

Redness and irritation indicate:

  • Barrier damage (compromised protective layer)
  • Microinflammation (your immune system responding to irritant)
  • Possible allergic reaction (rare, but possible)

How Nordic Formula Helps: If irritation occurs:

  1. Days 1-3: Skip all products with active ingredients. Use only Gentle Cleansing Foam + Daycream Defence Repair SPF 50 (SPF protects healing skin from UV damage)
  2. Days 4-7: Introduce actives very slowly—Power Glow Serum once every 3 days (not every day)
  3. Week 2+: Gradually increase frequency as your skin tolerates

Pro Tip: Irritation from products is different from allergic reactions. Irritation develops over days as your barrier deteriorates. Allergic reactions happen immediately (within minutes to hours) with itching, swelling, or hives. If you develop allergic symptoms, seek medical attention. If you develop gradual redness, back off on actives.
