What is sun damage to the skin?
Sun damage is the change that happens in the skin when it is exposed to UV radiation from the sun over time. UVB rays cause sunburn, while UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and break down collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep the skin firm and elastic. The damage builds up throughout life, including on the days you do not notice that you are getting burnt.
Most of what we associate with ageing skin, such as pigmentation spots, uneven skin tone, fine lines, loss of firmness and a rougher skin texture, is largely caused by the sun. This is called photoageing.
How does the test work?
The test asks about your skin type, how much sun you have had over the years, how you protect your skin and which signs you see in your skin today. Based on your answers, you get an assessment of how much sun damage your skin is likely to have, and concrete advice on what to do next.
The test was created by Linda Jørgensen, professional skin therapist and founder of Nordic Formula. Linda has more than 30 years of experience in the skincare industry, has trained skin therapists at leading academies and runs her own clinic in Oslo. The questions are based on what she looks for when she analyses her clients’ skin.
What does your result mean?
Your result shows how much sun damage your skin is likely to have, and what that means for your skin health. Whatever your result, it is never too late to protect your skin. Daily sun protection stops further damage, and the right skincare can improve skin tone and texture over time.
The test is not a medical assessment, and it does not assess moles. If you have a mole that grows, itches, bleeds or changes colour, contact your GP or a dermatologist.
If you would like a more thorough assessment, Linda offers both digital and in-person skin analyses. Book a skin consultation with Linda →
